Arrest of Suspect in Fatal Stabbing Case

A suspect connected to the fatal stabbing of a police officer outside a bar in Muhuru Bay, Nyatike, Migori County, has been apprehended at the Kenya-Tanzania border. The arrest took place at Kona 7 Trading Centre, where the individual was attempting to cross into Tanzania to avoid capture. This incident occurred approximately 15 hours after the attack, which happened on Friday morning in the same region.

The area is located near the main Kenya-Tanzania border, and the suspect, who is a local Kenyan from the region, is expected to appear in court on Monday, July 14, for the murder charge. Constable Gilbert Kibet, who was stationed at the Kenya Revenue Authority Muhuru Bay Station, was killed under unclear circumstances. His body was discovered on Friday, July 11, outside a bar several hours after the attack, which reportedly occurred around 4 am.

According to police reports, blood was oozing from the neck of the victim, who had been stabbed. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was confirmed dead. The police stated that the victim was attacked on the left side of the neck by the assailant, who then fled the scene. The body was later moved to the Migori Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

The murder weapon, identified as a broken bottle, was recovered at the crime scene. However, the exact motive behind the attack remains unknown. Police are currently conducting an investigation and preparing for the planned autopsy. They are also working on arranging the movement of the body to the victim’s rural home for burial.

Additional Arrests in Electronic Theft Case

In a separate development, police have detained a suspect operating an electronic repair workshop in the Mathare area of Nairobi. This arrest followed the recovery of several suspected stolen electronic items, including 72 mobile phones, two laptops, a Universal Flashing Interface (UFI), a Pandora device, a camera, two external hard drives, and a CPU.

Police reported that 32 of the recovered mobile phones have been positively identified by complainants from M-KOPA Company. The raid was initiated after allegations that the shop was receiving stolen electronic goods. Authorities have intensified their investigation into this trend and are actively searching for additional suspects involved in the case.

The ongoing efforts by law enforcement highlight a broader concern about theft and the illegal trade of electronic devices. As investigations continue, authorities are determined to bring those responsible to justice and ensure the safety of the community.
